I just reached a year and a half at Starbucks on Monday. Lately I’ve been feeling super under-appreciated. I’m getting the least amount of hours despite my open availability. Aaand I’ve inquired about becoming a shift and one of my partners was promoted.
Quit my other job for the Bux. Shortened one vacation and completely canceled the other for the Bux. And this is how I’m being repaid. Awesome. No thanks.

I asked my boss two months ago if I could have August 11th-16th off to go to Florida and then move. He told me no because we would be understaffed. He approved only the days I needed to move.
Uh.. I have four days off in a row. And could easily have gotten the two shifts on Monday and Tuesday covered. I could have gone..
Beginning next week, I will be attending weekly evening classes at various synagogues around Kansas City. It’s a 36-week long class for conversion candidates.
My background: I do have Jewish heritage. My maternal great-grandma’s dad was jewish. It’s unclear to our family whether her mother was jewish as well. Regardless, my family has not been practicing since my great-great grandparents. We were secular with few Jewish-isms (how else can I describe that?) that have been passed down.
I have always identified with Judaism, even before I discovered my family’s tangled lineage. I’ve tried to reignite the flame over the passed few years…
I’m choosing to go through the conversion route. Do I really need to convert to be considered jewish? That’s unclear. Did I mention my family went out searching for family history and clues in western Kansas a few years ago? Yeah, found nothing. However, since I was not raised as a Jew, I’m starting from square one. My slate is just as blank as anyone else converting.
Right now I already know I will likely end up converting to Orthodox or conservative. Reform was never a consideration although the director of KU Hillel is a reform rabbi. Having a rabbi so close could be nice compared to the other synagogues that are 30 minutes away. Lawrence has one jewish community center and it’s defined as “egalitarian.” Um, no thanks.
I’m kind of rambling now. Just a heads up to current followers…
Well, my blog is already a quarter Dave Franco so it’s not changing that much.
